CERAMICS
FOR BEGINNERS
A space for our Sticks community to explore creative exploration through clay. We will try out different hand building techniques and wheel throwing, glazes, shapes and sizes!
● Program Overview
What You’ll Learn
Spend an afternoon getting hands-on with clay, learning the basics of hand-building and wheel throwing, and enjoy a little matcha from Raku Matcha while you make.Program Structure
The session will begin with a hands-on demonstration of pinch, coil and slab techniques to create simple ceramic vessels. Participants will then experiment with handbuilding and try the pottery wheel, with guidance from a skilled ceramicist. Expect an informal, creative space with tea, music and plenty of clay to explore at your own pace.
What’s Included
Expert teachers provide plenty of one-to-one support, so beginners learn wedging, centring, throwing bowls and cylinders, and trimming, while intermediate potters build on their technique with advanced guidance; the studio is beautiful, calm and centrally located—just a one‑minute walk from the stations—and offers free matcha, great tunes and relaxed, friendly vibes.
Session Lengths
The programme consists of a 3.5-hour ceramics taster session exploring pinch, coil and slab handbuilding techniques, alongside a guided introduction to the pottery wheel, with time to experiment and create personal pieces in a relaxed, creative environment. This is followed by a separate 2-hour glazing session, where participants will learn glazing techniques and add colour, texture and personal details to their fired ceramic pieces.
